“The Wrights”
Join the Aylmer Heritage Association’s upcoming event, “The Wrights,” presented by Richard Henderson, a local historian and direct descendant of Philemon Wright. Philemon Wright arrived with a small group of pioneers to settle the area 225 years ago in 1800.
An animated speaker, Richard will trace the early settlement of the region; the settlers’ lifeline (the Ottawa River and the portage trail that became the Aylmer Road); and the lives of those whose efforts laid the foundation for the thriving city of Gatineau today. Two separate talks will be offered, in French and in English.
Books by Richard Henderson will be available for purchase after the talks – and he will be pleased to sign your copy.

Position and Privilege: The Graham Family
Join the Aylmer Heritage Association’s upcoming event, “Position and Privilege: The Graham Family”, a bilingual presentation by Gabriela Sanchez and Enid Page.
Among the privileged people living on the Aylmer Road at the time of the Great Depression were the Graham family, whose life and leisure activities are interpreted through their major hobbies: photography and aviation. (AHA Archives Collection P.26 Arthur Graham b&w negatives 1920s and 1930s.)
Reinforcing Aylmer as a microcosm of the country in the 20th century, the digital photographs in this collection are the source for our examination of the life of a family who lived on the prestigious Aylmer Road at a time of great wealth in Canada coupled with abject poverty; a society largely unaware of the massive changes to come in the aftermath of World War II.
