The purposes/objectives of the Aylmer Heritage Association are to protect and preserve Aylmer’s heritage, namely its culture, history, buildings, historical sites and natural environment.
In 1975, alarmed at the demolition of historic buildings and loss of green spaces to make way for new development, a group of concerned Aylmer residents founded the Association with encouragement from Aylmer Town Council, the Outaouais Development Commission and the National Capital Commission. Their mission: the protection of Aylmer’s built heritage and natural landscape. Their priority: to identify every heritage building (constructed before 1920) and to prepare an inventory.
This work, started 50 years ago, continues today as Association members promote the value of heritage to the quality of life, and engage in efforts to protect the buildings and green spaces that define the character of historic Aylmer.
